Sandy Hook Light

Sandy Hook Light

I haven't been out with my camera in some time now. I just haven't had time to. Hopefully "with time", as I get more used to this disciplined (tied-up???) life I'll learn to juggle things better. I swear, I am trying.

Meanwhile, here's yet another lighthouse that we added to our "collection" recently. Sandy Hook Light (built in 1764) located almost on the tip of New Jersey is the oldest continuously working lighthouse in US. It was shot on a beautiful afternoon that we spent outdoors with my husband's cousin.

The park surrounding it was completely deserted and we had this beacon all to ourselves...almost like our own quiet, private getaway. On the flip side, since the light stays closed in winters, we could not get to climb up into the tower to get the view of New York Bay and Atlantic. Next time, perhaps!

beautiful shot. Love the clean lines of the building and the lighthouse against the blue backdrop of the sky.

really nice - I like the perspective and the contrasts so much and so crisp - I live in a landlocked area of Canada and would love to collect something like lighthouses!

I wish I lived in a lighthouse. :)

*L* I got confused when I first saw the post title. Sandy Hook? How did you get to Sandy Hook? And when did they get a lighthouse? This would be a town by that name in Manitoba, near where I grew up. ;-D

Beautiful picture. I love how it stands about against that fluffy sky.

You'll have to get yourself a small P&S camera to carry around in your pocket.

Lovely! I love light houses! I've been in NC for a year and still have never seen one. My sister will be visiting in a few weeks so I will have some new pixs soon. We are going to try to see all the lighthouses in the outerbanks.

Always loved lighthouses; maybe because they usually stand in some gorgeous places... ;)
Thanks for your comments at Blogtrotter. I'm still in the Greek Isles there, but far from lighthouses... :(
Have a great weekend!

Hello Moi, Your life sounds full of work with not enough play right now. So I fully understand why you might dream of holidays and vacations.

Oh, what a great lighthouse! "Sandy Hook"! I don't know that I ever saw this lighthouse, but when my sister's husband became a chaplain in the Army years ago, they lived out there. Is Sandy Hook a town too? I remember Redlands. I don't even remember the name of the Army base. They lived in a big old house/apartment building right on the water, and I loved it.

for Ruth:
Yes, Sandy Hook is a small town in Manitoba, near Lake Winnipeg. A friend of mine hated being referred to as a "Sandy Hooker." LOL

Hi Moi, this is a really nice looking old lighthouse. They have a charm of their own. Pity you were not able to visit it.
