Drenched

Drenched

It's almost 10 days since my summer vacations started and I have like another 25 to go before school reopens in late August. And "What am I doing? Nothing. I am letting life rain upon me." (Rahel Varnhagen) :)

Have a great Monday all...for now my life's a long weekend :)

Rythm

Swaying leaves

For someone who's shy to sway with abandon, take a leaf out of the palm's book (any puns here are unintended)..this one outside the neighborhood's Dairy Queen's window had me spellbound behind my lens. I must have clicked a dozen odd pics till my husband decided I have gone bonkers and walked out of the place to enjoy his banana split in peace outside. Guess there are times when indulging each other's idiosyncrasies is beyond spousal patience!!! :D

A Moment in Time

A moment in time

Much as I want to share the beauty of Mackinac Island here, I had to share this image shot this Sunday evening in good ol' Florida :) I love the reflections here and the moment warms the cockles of my heart for some strange reason. Hope you all had a great start to the week :)

Mackinac Island-I

Mackinac Island

From Mackinac City, we took a short ferry ride to Mackinac Island (pronounced as Mackinaw: yes,you guessed it right, it's the French connexion :D) A popular attraction in summer, there were plenty of tourists like us, all happy exploring the history and scenic beauty of the place. I like my getaways quieter and more secluded but it makes for great people-watching opportunities. And seeing all those happy faces around only adds to your own happiness :)

There's been a ban on automobiles since 1898, the major mode of transportation being bicycles and horse-drawn carriages.

Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse

Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse

My husband and I collect them. As postcards and miniatures, even those that we have not witnessed the beauty of with our own eyes, as photos and milestones. Our house is replete with replicas of lighthouses and boats. We jokingly attribute this nautical fascination to both of us being born under water sign. There's something very romantic about these coastal beacons : they have survived the ravages of time and some of them still stand vigil on the remote shorelines and what better place to go looking for them than on Great Lakes :)

This one facing Lake Huron in Mackinac City, Michigan was built in 1892 to guide ships through the Straits of Mackinac. In 1957, the Mackinac Bridge was completed (can you spot it in this pic!!!), rendering the light station useless. The families of the station keeper moved out and the buildings stood vacant till restoration efforts made it accessible to public.

As twilight melts..........

As Twilight Melts

"At length the Vision closes; and the mind,

Not undisturbed by the delight it feels,

Which slowly settles into peaceful calm,

Is left to muse upon the solemn scene."

- Wordsworth

Shot on our way from Ohio to Upper Peninsula, Michigan. Beyond towns, the countryside was dotted with farmlands with red barns and silos, hay bales adorning farms and sun on its way to bed, lent them a nonpareil beauty, "melting, minting all to gold".

On a shoe-string budget???

On a shoe string .....

On a shoe-string budget??

Very unlikely. As a Dutch proverb goes, "Don't throw away your old shoes until you have got new ones."......Someone seems to a have a coupla pair too many ;)

En-gross-ing :)

En-"gross"-ing :)

Not a very pleasant way to start a Monday morning, I know but the idea of this "science in disguise" exhibit brought a smile when I first spotted it at the local science center just outside my school here. The exhibit based on a bestselling book (by the same name) for kids, claims that it "explores all the slimy, mushy, oozy, scaly, and stinky gross (yet scientific) things that occur everyday in the human body".One can even test one's "Grossology IQ" with a multiple-choice challenge!!!!

Have a Happy or shall I say En-gross-ing Monday :)
