Standing Tall

Little Sable Point Lighthouse

I had been meaning to share the images of this brick-walled light earlier but then I got distracted by the daisies :)

Little Sable Point lighthouse in Mears, MI was closed by the time we reached so we missed out on the view from the tower but the glimmering Lake Michigan had us enchanted for the better half of the evening we spent at the beach.......the sun lingered deliciously over the lake for a long time and eventually dissolved into it.....As we reached the end of our time on the lake, we dipped our toes in the now-cold water for one last time and reluctantly left for dinner.

Time. Captured. And held on to.

Benton Harbor Light, Michigan

My fingers still remember how they hurt as we walked on the frozen lake shore last evening while my heart smiles as it remembers the sight of the orange sherbet sun as it melted into the lake. Every time I have visited Michigan, I have been lucky to add atleast one lighthouse to my slowly-but-steadily growing collection of these sentries of time. And for that one reason alone I can claim that I lurrrrrrrrrve (that's one step beyond love :D) the Great Lakes State! This was shot at Benton Harbor in South West Michigan, yesterday. This weekend was good for the soul and I am happy about that too :)

Salmon pink sunset

Salmon pink sunset

The sunsets here may be no match for the brilliant coastal sunsets we were used to while living in Florida but they are beautiful nevertheless. Anyway, what's not to like about sunsets. I love yellow-gold-sienna ones as much as this soft-delicate-blushing sunset we witnessed on a blustery evening last weekend. With all the winds blowing over the weekend, I am surprised that there are any leaves left on the trees. But some of the resilient ones are still putting up a show....and I am not done with them......not yet! :)

Looking back as the year draws to an end

Looking back

It's been an eventful year for us, and that's really an understatement. Life's been more than chaotic in the past few days......it's been a rumba with suitcases, decisions, and emotions. Our move to West Coast has been shelved, for now.

Life in rear view mirror as we left Virginia and drove up further north with the whole kit and caboodle that mattered to us packed in our "Merry Oldsmobile". Hope you all are having a great holiday season and here's wishing all a beautiful year ahead.

Fire in the sky!

A walk into the sunset ...

A walk into the sunset (well, almost :D)

As temperatures come down, sunsets seem to get intense. Today was one of those days: a slight nip in the air and we had to head seawards to catch the sunset. It was about time we hit the beach anyways, considering that we have been cooped inside for too long. As you can see, we were not disappointed. The sun on its way out created such fiery reflections in the waters and the skies that almost everyone stopped and watched as sea slowly consumed the glowing ball.

Sunset in Key West

Swaying palm

Sunset in Key West

Every time I go visiting a place, I try and retain one special memory that I'll always fondly remember the place by. It does not always have to be a "clicked memory". With Key West it has to be the sunset with palms nodding in the ocean breeze, overlooking the waters that constantly change colors from azure to emerald to gold in the fading sunlight.

Have a great weekend all :)

As twilight melts..........

As Twilight Melts

"At length the Vision closes; and the mind,

Not undisturbed by the delight it feels,

Which slowly settles into peaceful calm,

Is left to muse upon the solemn scene."

- Wordsworth

Shot on our way from Ohio to Upper Peninsula, Michigan. Beyond towns, the countryside was dotted with farmlands with red barns and silos, hay bales adorning farms and sun on its way to bed, lent them a nonpareil beauty, "melting, minting all to gold".

Love's warm glow???? :)

Sunset

"There are two kinds of light--the glow that illuminates, and the glare that obscures."- James Thurber

An abstract image shot at my favorite time of the day. Me and my husband were back from school (yes we are still struggling our way thro' books, exams, semesters and other scholarly demands of school life), relaxing now that we are done with the Spring semester..........when lying on our couch, i shot this image of fading sun from behind the chair that lay between me and the patio window.

On this day today, 7 years back, we got around to being together (we have been married for 4 months now and have a long way to go) and no we haven't felt the seven year itch yet :) Here's to all that we share and will continue to.

Have a great weekend, all :)

By the sea.......

Sunset by the sea

I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky;

And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by.

Sky's the Limit!!!!

The palmettoes dot the cityscape here everywhere: they make beautiful silhouettes against the sea-sky.
The weekend's just a day away : and I am gonna be travelling!!! :) :)Not really far but even a short trip with weather fairies smiling the way they are these days, is a welcome change ...........Have a great Friday all!

A Moment in Time.............

Is there anything like an "imperfect sunset" ?????

" Nature rarer uses yellow Than another hue; Saves she all of that for sunsets, --Prodigal of blue, Spending scarlet like a woman, Yellow she affords Only scantly and selectly, Like a lover's words." Emily Dickinson No sunset can ever be replicated..............and thats what makes them so special. I can see a bazillion sunset shots and still not get tired of them.......they always bring a whiff of nostalgia, romance and warmth.........It's like those Van Gogh's paintings....their beauty refuse to efface, years after they were created. God's own way of telling us that all art is but an imitation of nature...........:)

As darkness descends.....

"....... But it feels impossible, somehow, to feel gloomy or depressed in this place. I feel I could sing, If I knew the right song for the occasion," said Pippin. -------------The Fellowship of the Ring, Book II, Chapter I, Many Meetings.

Postcards from Shimla - I

A week long sojourn in Shimla with my li'l brother...........an orgy of sight-seeing......it's been a splendid vacation and the best part is it's not over yet....... These glorious sunsets were captured on a rare, singular day that we had sunlight........... My heart's in mountains..........I wish to have a home one day nestled among hills, hid behind conifers, pine scent in the air, Himalayas in the backdrop.................. :)

A peck of gold!

Staying a furlong's distance (well, almost) from ocean spoils you...........You crave for that brilliant sunset which you were once witness to and has stayed with you ever since.............This is one of my fav. from the collection of myriad sunsets that I have (the vermillion ones, the salmon pink ones, the blushing skies, the "urban" sunsets, the interstates sunsets ............................) Was taken on Madeira beach when one of the cold fronts had hit Florida last year. The sun melting into the sea......turning all to gold. Gilt-edged, eh??? :)

Of Sun n Sand n Solitude!

"The sun and sea lay welded, wed; The day lay crouched upon the deep Half closed, as eyes half closed in sleep, Half closed, as some good book half read!"
