Oceana Roll!!!

".........I got boards to bend, I got planks to nail
I got charts to make, I got seas to sail
I'm gonna build me a boat
With these two hands
It'll be a fair curve
From a noble plan
Let the chips fall where they will
Cause I've got boats to build
Sails are just like wings
The wind can make em sing
Songs of life songs of hope
Songs to keep your dreams afloat
I'm gonna build me a boat
With these two hands..............
Shores distant shores
There's where I'm headed for
Got the stars to guide my way
Sail into the light of day.............."

Guy Clark

While North freezes, we are enjoying a great spell of weather in these parts......Time for boats to be out, sails to be set, and spirits to soar.......:) :)

The mediterannean in America........

There's a charming, historic Greek settlement called Tarpon Springs, not far from the city I live in. It's a delightful place with sea-salts in the air, fresh seafood on sale and a Greek deli at every corner. But that's not what this place is famous for......It is popular as the "sponge capital" of the world......Back in 1930's the sponge industry here was flourishing till the sponge beds were contaminated and destroyed by bacteria in 1940's. The revival of the natural-sponge industry happened in 1980's. They say the place has retained the atmosphere introduced by Greek sponge divers over a hundred years ago...... .......from harvesting sponges to selling them, ............An alluring place, indeed! :)
The lamp was shot there while we visited the quaint li'l town last year.I lost most of my pics when I changed my laptop......the blog wasn't up and running in those days.........Guess, I'll have to re-visit the town sometime to bring it here on the blog .......

The Pumpkin Day and Jack-O-Lanterns!

I dig warm colours and orange's one of them...........so tho' i have no real fascination for pumpkins, i somehow always end up clicking them for that bout of colour they add even to the dullest of the surroundings.........
Hope u have a happy and safe Halloween!!! :)

Sky's the Limit!!!!

The palmettoes dot the cityscape here everywhere: they make beautiful silhouettes against the sea-sky.
The weekend's just a day away : and I am gonna be travelling!!! :) :)Not really far but even a short trip with weather fairies smiling the way they are these days, is a welcome change ...........Have a great Friday all!

For a change,

............(no puns intended here)...the photo-blog of mine has no pic on but a message on behalf of a friend and his sis who are running a marathon this Oct 22nd, in Chicago. They have pledged to raise funds to support a few meaningful causes, close to their heart, in India. The sis-bro duo look foward to sponsors to help them make a difference in the lives of children and communities they are running for. Have a look at their webpage And don't forget: every li'l help counts!!! :) Have a great week, all!!! :)

Mom's the wor(l)d! :)

.......That's the second time am using the title......the last time I did was for Mother's Day : http://mykodak.blogspot.com/2006/05/moms-world.html I must have almost forgotten about this pic as it was shot aeons ago when this camera was newly acquired......... The adorable 6-weeks old Tamani (that means "hope" in Swahili) was the town's darling.................Every afternoon he'd come out for a coupla hours to play in the sun and for public-viewing and we'd all go sighhhhh!!! It was such a wad of fun to see him playing in the sand and tho' it had its aunts and uncles around, it wud never leave his mom's side, nor would she move more than a few inches away from him ever!!!! :) I have a coupla more shots of him, which I would put up as soon as I can locate the CD they are on! It was a struggle to get to shoot him coz of the kids thronging up to watch the baby-elephant they all adored, am lucky I managed to get this one ............... Nevertheless, I was mighty thrilled with my brief date with Tamani :)

Is there anything like an "imperfect sunset" ?????

" Nature rarer uses yellow Than another hue; Saves she all of that for sunsets, --Prodigal of blue, Spending scarlet like a woman, Yellow she affords Only scantly and selectly, Like a lover's words." Emily Dickinson No sunset can ever be replicated..............and thats what makes them so special. I can see a bazillion sunset shots and still not get tired of them.......they always bring a whiff of nostalgia, romance and warmth.........It's like those Van Gogh's paintings....their beauty refuse to efface, years after they were created. God's own way of telling us that all art is but an imitation of nature...........:)

The curious one :)

It's amusing how these li'l rodents respond to a camera-toting human around................Some of them flit by even before u can catch a glimpse, others can't really bother about u, and then there are some like this curious li'l bushy-tailed chipmunk, who once done with her food, kept posing for the lens......She'd flit from one tree to another and still lookout for me :)

As darkness descends.....

"....... But it feels impossible, somehow, to feel gloomy or depressed in this place. I feel I could sing, If I knew the right song for the occasion," said Pippin. -------------The Fellowship of the Ring, Book II, Chapter I, Many Meetings.

Cherub................ :)

Guess what! I just discovered that my camera has some of the pics and all this while I thought I'd deleted them all. Here's a li'l Himachali cherub (btw, i love the way that word rolls off my tongue) with that splendid cap of his..........he was extremely shy and wud just not look into the camera........we tried bribing him with the pencil but guess that was a bad move, he got so enchanted with it that he completely refused to acknowledge moi and my dear camera!!!! :( P.S : Please click on the pic : it looks better when seen in its original size!

Postcards from Shimla - I

A week long sojourn in Shimla with my li'l brother...........an orgy of sight-seeing......it's been a splendid vacation and the best part is it's not over yet....... These glorious sunsets were captured on a rare, singular day that we had sunlight........... My heart's in mountains..........I wish to have a home one day nestled among hills, hid behind conifers, pine scent in the air, Himalayas in the backdrop.................. :)

A peck of gold!

Staying a furlong's distance (well, almost) from ocean spoils you...........You crave for that brilliant sunset which you were once witness to and has stayed with you ever since.............This is one of my fav. from the collection of myriad sunsets that I have (the vermillion ones, the salmon pink ones, the blushing skies, the "urban" sunsets, the interstates sunsets ............................) Was taken on Madeira beach when one of the cold fronts had hit Florida last year. The sun melting into the sea......turning all to gold. Gilt-edged, eh??? :)

One Winter Evening........................

This one's yet again from my cold-storage (get the pun, get the pun!!!! :))))) One of my enduring memories of snow-fall is looking out of the window in Manali and watching snow-flakes cavort in the light of a distant flickering lamp-post. This pic shot at Milwaukee revived it :) Its posted here too : http://www.shutterchance.com/bloggers/moi/ Does owning two photoblogs reek of vanity???? :DDDDD

Lest we forget!!!

....................Inspite of what the advertising/marketing poseurs selling dreams would want us to believe! Does it remind anyone of Fugazi's anthem........... ".......Merchandise keeps us in line, Common sense says it's by design What cud a businessman ever want more Than to have us sucking in his store??? We owe you nothing You have no control.... You are not what you own!!!................"

Manna from heaven :)

The sun-drenched Florida is finally getting its fair share of rains and at the cost of being boringly repetitive I come back with more takes on rain: this time all as seen from the Rear Window :) "Let the rain kiss you Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops Let the rain sing you a lullaby ..............." Langston Hughes.

Objets d'art!

This is from the collection that i have from our visit to St. Augustine, Florida. The place was replete with shops selling antique wares: one wud expect that from a place that stakes its claim to be the oldest city in United States . It's a delightful place, if u care for a lazy stroll down the palm-tree lined town dotted with shops housing antiques, curios, souvenir, colourful family-owned eateries and Spanish-influenced architecture, but they burn a neat li'l hole in ur pocket. I love the paper-weights i picked up from there: http://mykodak.blogspot.com/2006/03/two-cents-worth.html PS: Click on the pic to get a better look!

Li'l Quack!

Caught these fuzzy siblings a few evenings back near the campus pond. There were more than a dozen of them being taken out by Mama Duck for the evening swimming lessons. It was a sight to behold as their mom led them to pond and they went splish-splash happily into the water while mom swam as gracefully as a duck can :D The brood had 14 kiddos like these and all looked alike. Wonder if animal kingdom goes by names : Widdle, Waddle, Piddle, Puddle , Li'l Quack : heard of that story???? And then there was this Tom n Jerry episode with "the ugly duckling" :) they make adorable tales, don't they??? My fav. is the first one, whom i decided to christen as Li'l Quack, preening for the camera or is it just tickling itself. :)
