"I am Powerful"

I am Powerful

Our daily routine is composed of countless visual assaults: billboards that do nothing for the landscape. As someone said, "advertising's constant mission to creep into every corner of our lives". But every once in a while, and I have to hand it to the Madison Avenue, they come up with something that jolts you into looking beyond your immediate needs. Care.org has been creating some very "powerful" ads and on an issue close to my heart: focus on women's innate power in fighting the global poverty. I decided to put it up here as my final contribution to Project Yellow.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to mention about this friend who's running a 26 miles marathon this June in San Diego to raise funds for cancer research. His mother's a breast cancer survivor of several years and his close cluster of family and friends has unfortunately not been free of cancer-related diseases. Please do have a look at his website here and pass the word around and/or donate if you can. Thank you for listening and have a great week ahead :)

Great image, not only for Project Yellow, but a great image all around! And a really good post to go with it as well.

That is a great image and ad. I might have to try that close up/half face thing.

BTW, so glad you find my blog 'cool'. I started it as a way to communicate with my husband while he was deployed. I have played around with my camera so much more since then!

What an eye grabbing image.

Sometimes I take a shot and think "that's good", then I see an image such as you've posted, and I think #### back to the drawing board!

Hi Moi, as I was reading your post mentioning billboards, it reminded me of looking down from an airplane at a city full of billboards - and not seeing them. From the air they are thin, and unnoticeable. I'm surprised they don't make them wider with advertising on top, to be seen by airline passengers in flight.

that IS a powerful billboard. it jumps out at you. really doesn't even need words.

i get sick of the constant advertising bombardment.... it actually makes me angry when i see billboards pop up along our beautiful mountain roads. it's a detraction from nature's beauty... trying to get us to buy things, taking away our focus from the scenery around.

i see discomfort in those eyes.
