Main Street, Galena

Main Street, Galena

About 85% of the buildings in the city of Galena are on National Register of Historic Places. Brick buildings are always a welcome sight and Main Street had ample of well-preserved ones.........

The town reminds me of somewhere in Europe. Those are charming buildings. Your shot of the rolling hills from yesterday is simply breathtaking!!

What a fun place....do you have a favorite shop? It looks like a great spot to just slow down and have a cup of coffee.

Great photo.
It looks like the back-lot at a Hollywood Studio.

This must be a sight for sore eyes for those used to the US suburban views!!

I'm doing a post tomorrow where I'd like to highlight recipes using saffron. Got any to share? I'll probably give a rice pudding with saffron recipe. The pilau you mentioned sounded nice...

Interesting note: the clock face has the 4 depicted as IV. This is rather unusual, most that I've seen use IIII. A post of mine touching on this topic, with a link to a related site.

Correction: 'vermicelli' pudding, not rice

Lovely step back in time. This looks like my kind of place. So much to do and so much to see. Wish my wallet was full enough to do that.

Oh WOW do I love the facades in the top shot. I can see myself walking down the street, drinking in the scene. There's so much to see in your photo, so much to absorb.

Extraordinary photography like yours makes me very happy indeed.

I note the extra chain. I guess the clock either fell once and crowned some pedestrian or somebody tried to steal it. Neat pictures.

Today (October 25th) in my birthday. I am 74 years old.

Two words, Moi: GOR GEOUS!

Not enough to have such pretty brick buildings, but they happen to curve very photogenically.

I wanna go to Galena!

Beautiful .. I'll bet they film a lot of movies there. They could put Disneyland to shame!

One of my favorite things about our move up north (as compared to FL) is how historic everything is. I love it so much, as I see you do to. :)

Wonderful shots of a part of the world few of us know. That Brobdingnagian pocket watch as a sign for the jewelry store is so charming and old-fashioned!

Love the warm shade of the brick buildings, and the clock is in a perfect setting. Lovely photos, Moi :)
