The Mother Road

The Mother Road (Illinois section)

A few weeks back we took a li'l trip down the Illinois section of the famed Route 66. It was a fun filled day replete with sights that included murals , vintage advertising signs, all sorts of memorabilia, restored eateries, and modest Midwestern downtowns. I was click-happy like a child. Here I share some of the several :)

I think they are all terrific! You could compile a book of travel photos.

I love the top image here -- it reminds me of old TV shows from the 50's (I could watch those all day!).

Haha, I remember seeing your profile image on Anna's blog months ago and loving it = ) I even did a photo shoot based on that idea last fall. Seeing it again just now reminded me. I still love it!

Thanks for your comments, too!

Oh, what a blast from the past!
I took Route 66 (with hubby and a frisky sheepdog) in our vintage Firebird, pulling a tiny U-Haul on our move from NY to LA (via Chicago). We were young and carefree those days...Beautiful memories.

Moi, I am touched by your sendoff - I really appreciate all your visits and sweet comments over at NDP.
All my best to both of you on your new adventure in the Midwest. I will check up on you from time to time.
Until then...

Those are all wonderful. I think I like the middles one the best!

I grew up in OK very near where Rt 66 goes...it never dawned on me to take pics of it!

Looks like you got your kicks on Rt.66 :) Love the photos Moi. Lovely vintage stuff!
I wish I had time to comment on each and every one of your wonderful photos. It's been a while. Spring suddenly arrived and felt more like summer, so I've been out in the garden every spare minute, and exhausted at night! We finally had rain, and expect more tomorrow, so maybe I'll catch up on a few more blogging buddies. I missed you!
Love those flying geese and yes, I did spot Lady Liberty..after squinting :) I photographed geese down by the river today. Lovely creatures! Hope you're doing well.

Like everyone who has ever heard that old song, I've longed to get my kicks on Route 66. These photos are terrific - probably the closest I'll ever get, too. Thanks for the road trip.

Fantastic photos from the famous Route 66! I didn't realize it was in Illinois too. I love the shot of the roller skating waitress!

Hi Moi! You probably didn’t notice, but I was absent for a while… ;)) Anyhow, I missed your posts and comments, so I’m trying to catch up!
I never made 66, but had some friends who did it and was quite an experience...
Hope you have a great week!

I see you have Donald Kinney's a Photo a Day in your side bar. Some of your photography reminds me of him. He and I exchange comments a lot. I have both of you in my sidebar.

You do good work.

Come visit,
Troy and Martha
