A Message in a Window.

A Home with a message

From Key West we left for Detroit. This was my first time in the Motown but the names of the roads, cafes, buildings seemed so familiar. My husband who's an automobile buff has stayed and studied in Detroit for some time before he decided to make a move to Florida. I wish I had more time on hands to explore the city he loves to talk about so often but we had to move on to Ohio for a cousin's wedding. We did get a chance to catch a brief glimpse of the Wayne State University Campus and Oakland County though, as we met up with a few friends. We intend to be in Detroit sometime next year for the International Auto Show. Hope to see more of it then.

The building on top caught my attention as it was sporting the famous blue-and-white "No War" placard (towards the bottom right, if you look close enough). The sign created by local resident Jean Wilson created quite a furore in south-eastern Michigan, I'm told. For more, read here.

Wow, that's a beautiful photo of a beautiful house.
It looks like one of the university buildings here at Brown.

love the ivy covering the building, and the story behind the placard was quite interesting, looks like most people are raring for peace nowadays

Nikon : This was on/around the Wayne State Campus. Since the campus merges with downtown with no defined limits, it's hard to tell if it was on campus or not.

Kunal : OH i have been there.....lovely lovely place....i have been to Kolkata only once and seen it very briefly....but do I love my one-third of a home :).....B'lore is where they are settled for good. :)
We tried out food at Peters Cat .....and loved it loved it totally ....

Suramya : they better, before we r done with decimating each other on some grounds or the other

Anna : :) Thank u

Hi Moi,
That house looks very un-American and very English in it's style.
As to her message i think it should have been listened to as it'sa complete mess what ever way you look at it.

Cheers Mark

Lovely picture of a beautiful house. Last month I landed at Metro airport, but had no chance to go to Detroit; anyhow, saw a similar house at Ann Arbor...

This looks like Indian Village or Canfield, but if it's close to Wayne State, it must not be. There are some wonderful homes over there. My daughter went to the College for Creative Studies right down the street. We loved visiting her there! I can't wait until the DIA reopens its refurbished wing. Detroit's really great!

Mark : Sometimes, the most profound wisdom comes from the most ordinary of citizens.....

Anna : Chked it out...and loved it :)

Still :)

GMG : I haven't been to Ann Arbor ever but hope to some day....thats my advisor's alma mater and he talks about it very fondly....:)

Ruth : I wish I could get to see more of the city..I am definitely gonna be there again to explore it further ...the city has character..tons of it, rather :)

That is a beautiful building! I always love to see ivy-covered houses. It looks like something out of the past. I love the sign too!

So, with just one sign, now it's all over, some people just have nice initiatives! Ok, I'd feel trapped inside that house even though I find it sooo beautiful!

Beautiful home and photograph. I love red brick homes, especially with black shutters, but you sure don't see them in Florida do you?

"No War" sign kicked down?

Heh. Idiots.

Looks like a cool house! Reminds me of all the houses by Lake Michigan in Chicago. I was there last summer *sigh*

I love the old brick building up north. Reminds me of growing up in Ohio.

Great photo. I love the vines clinging to all the brick.

I've never heard of the "famous blue-and-white "No War" placard" and don't really understand why anyone would object to it, let alone damage it. The article wasn't terribly enlightening, but I appreciate the link.
