Mackinac Island-I

Mackinac Island

From Mackinac City, we took a short ferry ride to Mackinac Island (pronounced as Mackinaw: yes,you guessed it right, it's the French connexion :D) A popular attraction in summer, there were plenty of tourists like us, all happy exploring the history and scenic beauty of the place. I like my getaways quieter and more secluded but it makes for great people-watching opportunities. And seeing all those happy faces around only adds to your own happiness :)

There's been a ban on automobiles since 1898, the major mode of transportation being bicycles and horse-drawn carriages.

After living in Miami for a few years, I love the idea of a land with NO cars!

Su : we worked up our appetite by first biking around the place a little, had our tummy fill and then took a guided tour on a carriage......:)

Oh yay! Mackinac Island. I haven't been there in a few years, and I know what you mean about it being a busy place with tourists, but it's fun. Love that bicycle shop with the bikes on the wall. Nice photos!

And no, I hadn't tried the paint cans in B&W, good idea. It might be ironic with the Martha Stewart can that reads "colors."

Thanks for the photos! I haven't been there in years...

So, did you stay at the Grand Hotel (and lounged on the world's longest porch)?

Hi Moi, Thanks again for such fantastic shots, its like I'm travelling with you...I like the bike-kind-of-picture , i did not know that you were having bikes there too.

Do you have a laptop with you? I am leaving soon also, but I/m afraid I cannot illustrate my travel stories with photo's,( or can't even post stories either) I am depending on Internet-cafe's , so when you miss me ( my photo's) you know why....

Have a great trip!!

The way they've hung the bikes is attention grabbing. Nice shots.

The last shot - with the "scalloped" awning is a nice one, too.

I love the top one with the bikes on the wall of the building.

I wish Florida were more conducive to cycling, but there are very few cycling lanes and the bicycle commuters that I know are hearty souls who have many stories of being run off the road and cursed just for daring to ride on the streets.
