Faith

Faith

This was shot in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist at Savannah where we took refuge from the intermittent rains. I had almost forgotten about it till I saw Ash's beautiful "Prayer" post today. This elderly gentleman's head bowed in prayer compelled me to take this image though I generally will let people be alone in their intensely private moments.

I have lived a little more than the quarter of a century on this earth and as I grow, my faith acquires different dimensions too. It's no more religious but it's as powerful as ever in the smallest of the creations and acts and beliefs. As we all start a new week, all I want to say is Keep the faith :)

I like this shot a lot. I couldn't have made it though. The mirror flapping up would sound like a gunshot in a quiet place like this.

Trust me John , it looks silent and empty but it was full of people who could not go out due to rain and though there were only two people in prayer , there were tons of us tourists clicking away the cathedral's interiors!

Beautiful composition!!

Personally, I'll rate beer over faith, but that's just me ;-)

Hi Moi,

Its a good job you didn't put him on a 'Moi angle' otherwise he would have fell out of the pew.

Really nice shot though.

Cheers Mark

Very fragile shot Moi!!
It has got two wonderful elements in it.
The first one is the softness of the light…and the other one is the ambience. I can certainly feel the silence. The black and white effect enhanced the emotional quality!
Very good…keep it up!

(I replied to your comment on my blog)

Interesting use of the word refuge in this context at the start of your post. The one who were there to pray and the ones (simply) taking shelter from the rain :-)

A splendid image, intense and meaningful, that brings to thousand considerations and reasonings.
Also to make photos, is, in his small, a search of God.

Seems like the Good Lord was using the rain to steer you into the Cathedral and stir your thoughts.

What a compellingly lovely photo of faith, Moi. Thank you for this image today. Its quietness inspires me.

Hi Moi, I instantly liked the black and white of this photo, and the way it blends in with the black framing of your blog. Nice! It looks as if the light is shining mostly on this gentleman's head, making his moment of prayer the focus of the photo. You don't think he's praying for rain, do you? :0

So many times lately it has been difficult to keep the faith. But photos such as this certainly help because of their power.
